The Final Week

Writer: Ann EstvoldAnn Estvold

Buongiorno (good day) from Italy. This week was the last week of the Rome program and was filled with lots of goodbyes, tears, and making lasting memories. However, do not fear because I will still be traveling Europe for another two weeks with my parents. Monday started with the Italian final followed by our last lunch as a group at Il Pozzo. After lunch I did some studying before the campus wifi went out, it was quickly fixed. That night we had our last dinner at Gustos followed by more studying. Tuesday consisted of the Grandeur of Rome history test in morning. I was then joined by two special guests, mom and dad, before I started studying for art history. After studying seven hours for art history, we went out to eat at a burger place. After dinner we had one final study session in the classroom.

Wednesday was the Art History final which took up most of the morning. The test was followed by chores and prep for our final Convivium. Convivium was spent having good conversations and starting to say goodbyes. After Convivium some of us played a prank by moving everyone’s desks around. Thursday was spent packing and doing course and program evaluations. After lunch some of us headed to climb the door at St Peters. That night we walked around the city, stopping to throw some coins in the Trevi Fountain. That night the students headed to Abbey Theater for a final party. Friday was spent running errands, packing, doing chores, and finishing up homework. That night some of us headed to Santa Barache for dinner, one of the first places we ate as a group. We then got one final gelato at Il Pozzo. Saturday was spent cleaning campus and our final big dinner as a group. The morning was spent dividing up chores and scrubbing the kitchen from top to bottom. I got the amazing task of scrubbing the moldy fridge. That night we headed to Trattoria Polese for our final dinner, also somewhere we went during the first week. The group then headed to St Peters square for one final get together. We sang Christmas songs in the square and then said our goodbyes to the chaplaincy, tears were shed by all. We then headed back on the bus and had a small Christmas party upon returning to campus. Sunday was a semi-early morning with my roommate leaving at 8:30. I finished up packing and headed to the airport with my parents for our next destination, Munich Germany. Upon arriving in Munich we figured out how to get to the Air bnb and had a quick dinner before heading to bed to prepare for the next day.

Ciao, Ann
